Search Results Sort By Date Not Relevance is a Thunderbird extension that changes the default order of search results to "Date" instead of "Relevance".

UPDATE: I have implemented this natively in Thunderbird now. If you are a using a version after 68 and before 77, it may not be implemented, and the add-on will not work. You would have to upgrade to the latest to get the functionality.

Latest version: 1.18 -- supports 68.* -- older TB versions can use version 1.17 which supported up through v60. Not sure about compatibility for v61-67.

Normally when you do a standard CTRL-K search, aka a "faceted" search, the results are ordered by "relevance". I almost always change that to "date", but that choice is not remembered for the next search, nor is there any way to change that preference. This extension changes the default to "date".
This does not apply to CTRL-SHIFT-F search, which already defaults to order by date.
